The Prophetic Young Director

Ragul Krishnamoorthy is the first young ad-director I came across ever. And he sure did make a mark! For someone who highly believes in chance’s architectural effect on life, he is equivalently well endowed with admiration for his work in the industry. The twenty-something media professional has an establishment to his name already, Brand Mascots. Hear how!

All way from the period of his seventh grade, it starts. Him watching his first film in the inquisitive eyes of a boy imagining direction- Kannathil Muthamittal, was all it needed to spark off the director’s streak in him. Naturally he was glued to the reality show Nalaya Iyakunar on the regional network. He used to jot down script ideas all over his notebooks. So his pursuit gained further momentum when he would get roped into school plays as their beloved dramaturge. He also credits a friend, Rakesh, for his consistent encouragement to this day even. So then what happens in the grand conclusion of his school life, he shoots a short film with his friend. You can still catch the film, Piramai, on Youtube.

At a crossroads, he was about to go into the study of Civil Engineering though his heart lied elsewhere, as imaginable. He had been wallowing in the supportive vibes of like-minded friends and cousins around him until he was prodded to pursue Engineering. As he had made up his mind to bite the bullet and settle for it, he was talked out of it by a colleague of his late father. He took this up as a sign sent down to him by his father. On the very next day of his spiritual intervention he took an admission for Viscom Programme at Sathyabama University. Following him into his collegiate phase, he makes a remarkable journey. He was joined at the hip by a friend- Suriya, of promising potential whose duo made a roar in their community. They directed several short films and a video song all throughout their course of study. He found internships in Vijay TV network, a Tamil film project and DDB Mudra.

Post his graduation from the Uni, he was idle for a brief moment before he was handed the opportunity to shoot for a commercial project as given by a contact within his circle. He cites the experience on this shoot as the first solid affirmation of his good judgement as to get into this line. In the next month, he was proposed with his second opportunity. And so, his professional life began to move on. One distinct tie-up that cinched the entrepreneurial aspiration in him would be his work with Cavinkare. Since he went on to do numerous multilevel collaborations with the said client he was moved to start his own media venture. But as goes for any sort of creative work, a single-channel business setup is a self-limiting revenue system. Of course, his reputation precedes him as well. Hence the expansive portfolio of his, stemming from him overseeing projects of his friends’ house productions.

Now, a question! How can one ever find peace amidst so many ideas bobbing up in a content creator’s head?!

He replies in philosophy that he takes joy in the turnout of a good ideation or just a little further- in the convincement of his closest group of friends who do too add their inputs to the matter, beyond which it is left to the assessment by the Universe in its trial of realization.

No, his interesting notions do not end there. They also say he hates winter for the fact that he descends into a gloomy persona which introspects all his past mistakes and failures. And in frustrating times like these or others, he goes out for a coldcoffee. And he is a self-proclaimed introvertive kind of a sufferer. But he can be fired up like a jukebox on being invited into a conversation. He has a manic ritual as well, watching a film at the end of everyday. What more?! he plays cricket on Fridays.

He has miles to go yet. He wishes to do more TVC (Television Commercials) in the near future which shall help get him up on the director’s chair one day. Let’s wish him a directorial debut soon!
