What a bizarre title, one might think on the very first exposure. I did. But on closer look, the man on the book cover seemed familiar to me, friendly even.
Then I recognized him as someone I follow on LinkedIn. I picked up the book and started flipping through its pages with a seemingly life-threatening urgency that yet another content creator has published a book– a long yet unrealized goal of yours .
So you take in the book, all at once. The cover, the title, the blurbs and surely every other thing. The cover is salmon pink which is an attractive point in and of itself. Then you see the photographic image of the author in the foreground of the cover and think “Right, brand positioning.”
You speculate all possible details surrounding the book– why is he smiling so wide? Is he happy? How could he be? How can I be? The book is a Penguin print, much more envy.
Add to this the fact that he is a voracious reader and a successful entrepreneur. One of which (the former) is a trait I could say we share. However, I must admit that once I started actually reading the book from the first page onwards… I was hooked
I knew then, I would be buying and reading this book. The reader in me took over the insecure, wannabe author.
The lamentations stop here, I promise. Hereon, the article apprises the value in buying and reading this book.
I had already started properly reading the book by the time I got home with the copy. In the next one day or so, I was emotionally invested in the author’s beautifully undulating journey of ups and downs as a serial entrepreneur.
A lot of places in the book reconfirmed the likeness of our values and past identical incidences in professional experience such as the time he mentions being greenmailed by his partners in initial business ventures.
I cannot be summarizing the book here if that is what you are expecting at this point. The most gratifying way to a story must be through the straightforward route of the book rather than the relay service of a reviewer.
But what kept me hooked to the story till its end was Alok Kejriwal. You will see in the book how he is an ethically bound entrepreneur whatsoever, a rare occurrence in today’s world you would agree.
Not to mention this book is incorporated with all sorts of audience-pulling elements of storytelling, namely uncertainty, breakthrough, downfall, divine intervention, crucial moments… That is why it made the best first read of this year for me and could very well be the same for you.
Further commenting on what stood out to me from his story is his innate skill for entrepreneurship. He has been doing this from a very young age in helping with his family business as well as venturing on his own. All of these experiences kept compounding on while his expertise and passion grew to a point that his former venture was bought off by Disney.
So? A lot of businesses are successful and are getting subsumed by a major conglomerate entity. But the distinction lies in his ethicality and his utterly positive attitude even in circumstances that could convert a generally good person (you will find numerous examples of this in the book).
Go ahead. It is a brief and inspiring read in under 200 pages. Start your read now
