During my childhood, I used to wait for the summer breaks. Since our family moved around often, I got to enjoy the excitement of discovering new worlds. Summers though, promised me the foundation of idea of home. The credit of which goes to my grandfather as he was the one to impress a strong notion of family in me. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with throat cancer in the year of 2012. It was a tragic time for us in watching him struggle through loss of speech. This incident shattered me hence I resolved therein to do something about it. Later on, through my work experience, I came to realise that Computer Vision and AI are becoming aids to doctors in early diagnoses furthering the quality of patient lives technically.
The same year of his demise, I got into a phase of Undergrad applications. Finally landing an admission to a reputed college in Bangalore, offered with a scholarship from the dept. of ECE. Although, I did struggle through college in its first two years, I wasn’t keen about pursuing coursework beyond curriculum. But turn of third year, gave a new lease- I became inclined to study starting at an interesting lecture, interesting why, the host professor mentioned something of his read on “Artificial Intelligence (AI)”. Hereon academia shone a new light to me. So the following two years I, I spent time reading, learning, and exploring a subject that may have been beyond my syllabus but kept me motivated in par nonetheless. The above characteristic professor agreed to mentor me as well on my project. And I was given an opportunity to work on UAV Detection using AI as for the end-of-study project.
In the final year of college, I got placed in an MNC via campus placement facility but reluctant, was I in pursuing their offer despite the benefits because I aspired for a career in AI. Thus I began looking for opportunities as well as making time for online courses with Coursera. The one influential course in my preference would be “Machine Learning by Andrew Ng”. Now, at Spectral Insights, the toil throughout paid off. Their scaled down enterprise directs a vision of developing an automated microscope. But due to scarcity of labelled data, I developed custom algorithms. The two years when I had put in my work there were both challenging and inspiring. I went on to research papers and discuss it with doctors to gain their intellectual notions of developing the Image Classification Algorithm. For further exploration infield, I moved to Pathpartner. They presented me with much generic challenges such as Face Detection & Recognition. I surfed on “arxiv.org” and replicated the results claimed in paper. This found me in a perspective to implement and analyse various deep learning approaches I was seeking the exposure of.
Given the field is outgrowing from vast research done on it round the globe, I believe pursuing my masters at Surrey University will help me acquire the expertise I’m expectantly aiming for. (The Surrey’s Master of Computer Vision is one of the few programs centred on computer vision.) I am excited about sitting through classes that cover the entire spectrum of computer vision algorithms. Consequently, I look forward to solving numerous complex Vision challenges on the way. I hope to work with Dr.Richard Brown who is experienced in Gesture Detection and Lip Reading. For my capstone project, I intend to combine data off of camera for gesture detection, radar for heart, and breathing rate monitor to build an advanced gesture recognition with real emotion detection.
As the passionate young adult, I am reaching out to build a career of deep interest to me. I place my belief in yours, to nail a self-profile of growth and venture. I deem to succeed for myself and community. I conclude in the reassurance of my professional and humane potentials.
